History
When the craft meets art …
In Pescia, there is a place that tells five centuries of typography and the history of a farsighted family linked to tradition, but with an eye to the future: the Stamperia “Benedetti”, which is the first printing of Pescia city and probably the first printing house in Tuscany.
As evidence of this – at the entrance to the workshop – writing on the walls recalls that here a Florentine typographer, Francesco Cenni, printed “Confessions of San Bernardino da Siena” on 28 February 1485, the first book printed in the city.
By relating this event to the date of Gutenberg’s invention, it is easy to understand how Pescia was surprisingly in step with the times in the art of printing. Roberta, daughter of the founder Gino Necciari, guides us to the discovery of this glorious enterprise in the pages of its website.
The Stamperia still has its headquarters in the historic premises in Piazza Matteotti, 10.
